Interim Deputy Manager – Children’s Residential (Therapeutic, 2-bed home)

Newton-le-Willows, Merseyside – (rolling rota, agency)
4–6 weeks minimum, Immediate Start, Temp-to-perm potential

This is an urgent leadership role within a small, two-bed therapeutic home supporting two children aged 14 and 15 with emotional and behavioural needs. The Registered Manager is stepping away, and while a new RM has been appointed, they are unable to start for several weeks. During this time, the team needs a confident and compassionate Deputy to bring presence, structure, and calm.

What You’ll Bring

We’re looking for someone who can confidently:

  • Lead shifts, manage incidents, complete debriefs, and support emotionally-driven staff
  • Supervise, guide, and mentor others in a respectful, empowering way
  • Work the rolling rota, including weekends. This is a floor-based role, not a Monday to Friday office post
  • Build natural, warm rapport with young people in care
  • Model resilience, reflective practice, and practical calm under pressure

Experience in a therapeutic or trauma-informed children’s home is essential.
A Level 3 qualification is required. Level 5 is not needed for the interim role, but funding and support are available if it becomes permanent.

About the Home

This is not a “tick-box” setting. It’s a highly relational home with a consistent, trauma-informed approach to care. The focus is not only on outcomes for children, but also on providing meaningful support to the staff team, who are deeply committed but currently stretched.

  • Both children are in stable placements and well-known to the team
  • 2:1 staffing is in place for each child
  • The children are expressive, resilient, and respond very differently to change.
  • The service is committed to offering consistency, safety, and emotional containment during this leadership transition.

The Team Culture

The staff are experienced, passionate, and genuinely care, but they need structured, visible leadership. Both co-founders are temporarily away from the home, so the Deputy will play a pivotal role.

The team responds best to leaders who are emotionally intelligent, calm under pressure, and not afraid to lead from the floor.

You’ll be supported by the Managing Director and Co-founder, both of whom remain involved in oversight and care deeply about the service.

If you’ve ever said to yourself:

“I just want to lead with heart, not hierarchy.” This is the home for you.
