Care Workers (RCW/NCW) | Children + Young People | Hampshire

< Back to Job Search

Residential Care Workers (RCW) and Night Care Workers (NCW) are needed to join a growing network of children’s residential homes in Hampshire. These roles offer clear progression from temp-to-perm employment and the chance to build a long-term career in residential childcare. Supporting children and young people aged 8–18 who have experienced trauma and placement breakdowns, you will provide stability, care, and consistency in a family-style home environment.

Job Title: Residential Care Worker (RCW) / Night Care Worker (NCW)
Location: Hampshire + surrounding areas (within 90-minute travel radius; travel & accommodation support available where required)
Pay: £12.30 – £12.50 per hour + sleep-ins (£45 / £66.75)
Contract Type: Temp-to-Perm → Pathway to permanent role
Hours: Minimum 29 per week, rota-based including weekends and sleep-ins

Requirements

  • Must have the right to live and work in the UK
  • Experience working with children or young people (desirable but not essential)
  • Level 3 Residential Childcare qualification (preferred; training support available)
  • Commitment to 29+ hours per week (no very part-time contracts)
  • Flexibility to work sleep-ins and rota shifts (including weekends)
  • Resilience, emotional intelligence, and the ability to build stable relationships
  • Age 21+ preferred; exceptional 18–19 year olds considered

About the Role

The homes are designed to feel like family homes, not institutions, with staff sharing mealtimes to create trust, stability, and positive routines. Consistency is essential in these roles, which is why this is not a casual agency placement. Instead, you will begin through us during onboarding, with the clear plan to move into a permanent role with the provider.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build safe, trusting relationships with children who have experienced trauma
  • Support with daily routines (mealtimes, activities, household responsibilities)
  • Work rota shifts, including sleep-ins and weekends
  • Ensure safeguarding and care plans are consistently followed
  • Contribute to a stable, family-style environment

Benefits

  • Hourly rate: £12.30 – £12.50 (depending on experience)
  • Annual salary range: £25,584 – £33,150 (based on 40–51 hours per week)
  • Sleep-ins:
    • £45 when a waking night worker is present
    • £66.75 when no waking night worker is present
  • Waking hours: paid at standard hourly rate
  • Meals provided on shift (staff eat with the children)
  • Training support to achieve Level 3 Residential Childcare if not already held

Travel & Accommodation Support

  • Roles available within a 90-minute travel radius of Hampshire homes
  • Transport and accommodation provided where required
  • Meals provided on shift (with children); off-shift meals self-catered
